Clinton Becomes Second Mississippi City to Qualify at Least Five Areas for C Spire’s Historic 1 Gbps Fiber to the Home Internet Technology Initiative

Hinds County town turns fifth area “green” as part of nation’s first and only statewide rollout of 100 times faster Internet access

Clinton, Mississippi (April 20, 2015) – Homeowner pre-registration exceeded the required threshold in a fifth area of Clinton last week – helping the city expand eligibility for C Spire’s ultra-fast 1 Gbps (Gigabit per second) Fiber to the Home Internet and related Super HDTM TV and home phone services.

Municipal leaders and C Spire officials announced today that Clinton’s Lakeridge fiberhood reached its pre-registration target on Friday and now joins the Cascades, Southern Oaks, Hunter’s Ridge-Indian Trails and Bruenburg North fiber hoods, which qualified for the 100 times faster Internet earlier this year.

The Ridgeland-based telecommunications and technology services company expects to finish engineering and begin construction in the latest Clinton fiberhood in June. Commercial service is expected to be available by mid-October in all five areas of the city.

Clinton Mayor Phil Fisher, whose city already has a reputation as one of Mississippi’s leaders in the adoption of education technology, said the latest progress shows that momentum is continuing as more residents learn about the opportunity to invest in the future.

“I’m pleased that we’ve qualified another area of the city for this next-generation service,” Fisher said. “I really believe we’re going to continue to see more areas qualify faster as we continue to share the opportunity with homeowners.”

Fisher said other parts of the city are expected to qualify for the next-generation technology soon, including the Bruenburg South and Linda Drive fiber hoods. “That’s important because this service needs to be available in every area where residents want it.”

“Clinton and other Mississippi cities continue to show momentum and are capitalizing on the excitement of Internet 100 times faster than the average consumer experience,” said Suzy Hays, senior vice president of Consumer Markets for C Spire. “Fiber to the Home is a game-changing technology that will help these communities become hubs for future investment, growth and economic development.”

For C Spire customers, the 1 Gbps Internet access is available for $70 a month, $90 a month for combined Internet and home phone, $130 for Internet and super HD TV and $150 a month for the three-service package. Non-customers must pay an additional $10 a month on all packages.

For a limited time, Clinton residents in the five qualified fiberhoods can sign up for the service and make the first round of construction. To order service, go online at www.cspire.com/clinton or call 1.855.438.1009 (GET100X) between 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday - Friday and 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Online pre-registration remains open in Clinton for the remaining 15 fiber hoods at the same website address. Residents are required to make a $10 refundable deposit and indicate their interest for specific services.

C Spire turned up commercial Gigabit Internet and related services for its first residential customers in Quitman, Ridgeland and Starkville last year and expects to activate service in Clinton, Corinth and Jackson later this year. Madison was added as the 7th city in the program last month and is working to qualify its first areas.
